Portrait Commission FAQs
What to Know Before Commissioning Your Portrait
Commissioning an original portrait is a personal experience, and you may have questions before you're ready to begin. Here are answers to some of the most common questions about working with me, from starting your commission through receiving your finished artwork.
-
Start by contacting me and telling me a little about the portrait you have in mind. You can share your photographs, the number of subjects, and any ideas you may already have. From there, I'll help you determine the appropriate size and discuss the details of your portrait.
-
Pricing is based on the size of the artwork and includes one subject. One additional subject increases the base price by 50%, and each additional subject after that adds 30%. I'll provide the total cost before you commit to the commission.
-
Yes. A 50% deposit is required before I begin your portrait. The remaining balance is due when the artwork is completed and before pickup or shipping.
-
Completion time depends on the size, complexity, and number of commissions already scheduled. Before we begin, I'll give you an estimated timeframe. If your portrait is intended for a birthday, anniversary, holiday, or other special occasion, please contact me as early as possible.
-
Yes. I can share progress with you as your portrait develops. This also gives us an opportunity to discuss any reasonable adjustments before the artwork is completed.
-
Minor adjustments can usually be made during the painting process. Because each portrait is an original work of art rather than a digital reproduction, some artistic interpretation is naturally part of the finished piece.
-
No. Portraits are provided unframed, allowing you to select a frame that complements both the artwork and your home. Depending on the canvas and your preference, some paintings may also be displayed without a frame.
-
Yes. I can ship completed portraits within the United States. Shipping is calculated separately and is not included in the commission price.
-
I accept Venmo, Cash App, and Zelle.
-
That's perfectly fine. You don't need to have everything decided before contacting me. I'll help you evaluate your photographs, choose an appropriate size, and determine a composition that works well for your portrait.
